Robert J. Abate, Executive Vice President
Robert Abate has established a strong industry reputation built on intuitiveness and a keen understanding of the financial, credit card and retail industries. As executive vice president of NationalCard Processing Systems, Abate heads up the Agent Bank division.
Most recently, Abate served as senior loan officer with Mariner’s Bank. Hand-selected by the bank chairman, Abate played a major role in the new bank’s organization, the establishment of product and service portfolio and the promotion of brand awareness. As senior loan officer, Abate was responsible for the management of the banks entire loan portfolio which included risk management, delinquency control and portfolio growth.
Beginning in 1995, Abate was key in the successful growth and development of Retail Resources, a leading customer relationship management and database marketing company that served leading national retailers and organizations. His efforts were reflected in the development of a national sales force, enhanced product offerings, expansion of a national client portfolio and a significant increase in company revenue. These efforts helped lead to the ultimate acquisition of the company by Chicago-based Trans Union.
Abate served as the senior vice president of agent banks with National Card Processing Systems when it was first established in 1989. During his tenure, Abate enhanced the agent bank portfolio and grew bank fee revenue significantly by improving operations, developing customized product offerings and the creation and presentation of targeted and on-point sales presentations. Assisted by his efforts, National Card experienced over 300% gross revenue increase in the first five years of operation and quickly grew to be the eighth-largest non-bank credit card processor in the nation. In 1994, National Card was acquired by First USA, Dallas, TX.
Earlier in his career, Abate served as senior vice president for National Community Bank, the largest independent commercial bank in New Jersey. He was responsible for the retail division and spearheaded credit card merchant processing efforts for both direct retailers and agent banks. He managed the consumer loan portfolio and played a vital role in the success of the bank’s correspondent and merchant credit card programs.
