 I n 1923, a group of life-long residents of the Township of Union, with a common bond of mutual trust and long association through membership in Connecticut Farms Church, gathered to form a building and loan association. These men became the nucleus of the Union Center National Bank Board of Directors. A special edition of the local newspaper heralded the grand opening of The Union Center National Bank on September 24, 1923. At year-end, the new Bank's deposits totaled $74,100.
A rock of steadiness during the turbulent, depression years, Union Center National Bank was one of the first banks in the nation to resume operations after the federally decreed bank holiday in 1933. At the end of that year, the Bank's tenth year of operations, assets climbed to $1.2 million. In the ensuing ten years, the Bank's assets continued to grow, reaching $5.1 million at year-end 1943. The Bank celebrated its 35th anniversary in 1958 by expanding its main office in anticipation of the continued growth in the Township and the nation. At that point assets had reached the $12.8 million mark.
Now, with 13 locations in Union and Morris counties and $921 million in assets, Union Center National Bank is proud to have the same name and same commitment to service for over 80 years.
